Vandana Menon

Vandana Menon is a visual artist based between Bangalore and Tezpur, India.

Her work ranges from documentaries & experimental films to live visual performances. She works with video, sound, animations and interactive technology. Across the sub-continent, in London, Istanbul, Germany and South Africa, she has worked on several multi-disciplinary collaborations with film-makers, musicians and dancers, architects and software engineers. Some of the spaces Vandana explores through her work are alternative paradigms of development, human rights, oral histories, arts and culture, rights based conservation of the ecology and environment and intersection of storytelling and community engagement.

She is the co-creator of the River Project; that aims to map out a biography of the Brahmaputra river in Assam & Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with other story tellers through the documentation and archiving of intangible cultural practices of riverine communities.

In 2021, along with Debashish Nandi, she collaborated on CoVISIONS; a collection of short films by filmmakers across five continents available as a series and a feature omnibus, telling intimate stories about their experience of Covid-19. CoVISIONS premiered at the New Zealand DocEdge Festival 2021 as an interactive installation. She was one of the contributors for the book Silicon Plateau: Volume Two; an art project and publishing series which explores the intersection of technology, culture and society in the city of Bangalore. Her work as a visual designer for #supernova, an experimental interactive play commissioned by the Human Trade Network, Germany premiered at the Human Trade Network Meeting at Freiburg Theatre in June 2017.

She was faculty at Srishti Films, Srishti Manipal Institute of Technology between 2017-2021 She has worked with organisations such as ATREE, Kalpavriksh,  LPPS,  Keystone Foundation, North East Network, NABARD etc while working at Srishti Films. She has also collaborated with contemporary artists such as Abhishek Majumdar, Sulk Station, BLOT, Archana Kumar & Malavika Sarukkai.
